The
Braces
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children be
seen by an orthodontist at the age of 7. The growth and development of
a child’s dentition should be monitored, and some future problems may
be
eliminated by early detection and orthodontic treatment and braces.

The Braces
 |
 |
Today there are several different kinds of
braces which can be used to help achieve a healthy new smile for you.
The most commonly seen are the silver, Stainless Steel braces. There
are Porcelain (or tooth colored) braces that are barely noticeable.
Lingual braces, which are attached to the back side of the teeth are an
option for some. And now you can even choose INVISALIGN,
which are invisible clear removable braces. Dr. Stevens has patented
his "Wildsmiles"
braces which are available in shapes like footballs, flowers, soccer
balls and stars. We will help you decide which option is the best
choice for your orthodontic needs. |

The First Appointment
| The first appointment is
performed at no charge to you. Your first orthodontic appointment in
our office will be a time for both the patient and the doctor to gather
important information. You will fill out a health history and we take a
panoramic x-ray to provide us with current and accurate information.
This is your opportunity to gather information about orthodontics and
braces. Dr. Stevens will conduct the orthodontic examination and
discuss your treatment and need for braces. We expect your first
appointment will give you confidence that you have gained valuable
information concerning orthodontics and your specific orthodontic
needs. In addition your general dentist will be informed about your
orthodontic appointment. |
 |
The Beginning of Treament
|
The
orthodontic experience begins with your first appointment but the
treatment itself begins at our diagnostic records appointment. During
this appointment, specific orthodontic x-rays and impressions
of your teeth will be taken so the doctor can develop a detailed
treatment plan for your specific orthodontic needs. The braces are
usually placed on your teeth at this appointment which initiates the
orthodontic treatment. |
Routine Orthodontic Appointments
|
Once
your orthodontic treatment begins, routine appointments will involve
an oral hygiene review and checking of your braces. Sometimes the wires
will be changed and new procedures will be initiated to align your
teeth and improve your bite. These appointments will usually require 20
– 40 minutes. |
Total Treatment Time
|
Orthodontic
treatment and braces can be as short as three months, but usually last
no longer than two years. During your first appointment the doctor will
give you a treatment time estimate. |
The Cost of Orthodontic Treatment
|
The
cost of your orthodontic braces will be discussed at the first
appointment. It is often less expensive than most people think. If
there are options to your treatment that will affect the cost, it will
be explained to you in detail. Orthodontic Associates offers many
different payment options which will be specifically crafted around
your financial goals and your applicable orthodontic insurance. |
